Urs Schoettli was born 1948 in Basel, where he completed his studies in philosophy. From 1978 till 1991 he was Secretary General and Vice-President of the Liberal International in London. 1990 till 1995 he was Iberia Representative of the German Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung. Until 2009 he served subsequently as foreign correspondent of the Swiss daily Neue Zürcher Zeitung in Delhi, Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo. Currently he is living in Tokyo and Mumbai and is an author of the NZZ Libro and an independent advisor on Asian affairs. He has published several books, the latest being "Die neuen Asiaten".
